4 - Chicago River is dyed green
Every year thousands of people descend upon the Windy City to watch the annual green dying of the city’s river. The dye, which is vegetable based and unharmful, is spread throughout the river a few hours before the St Patrick’s Day parade begins, and keeps its colour for up to 48 hours.
