A Beginner's Guide to Filming Wildlife on a Safari

There’s only one thing that beats coming home from a safari with wild tales of spotting the Big Five – coming home with footage of it. Getting up close and personal with wild animals in their natural habitat can be exhilarating, which means it comes as no surprise that those particular videos are some of the most popular.

With that in mind, we’ve put together the ultimate beginners guide to filming wildlife on a safari, with everything you need to know. Ready to get wild?

1 - Consider using a zoom lens

As close as you may get, sometimes you’ll need a helping hand from your trusty zoom lens to get that perfect shot of a snoozing lion. You’ll often find that the majority of the action is within 200-400mm away, so opt for a 100-400mm or 200-500mm lens.

If using a mobile, a zoom lens attachment could prove useful to ensure your video quality remains high. The Moment Anamorphic lens is a good option for budding filmmakers, with its lightweight body and firm locking system, making sure it stays in place no matter how bumpy the road.
