Refer a Friend Program
How does it work
Newsflare has launched a new referral program called refer a friend which I’m sure everyone is familiar with. Here is how our particular program works.
1) Each newsflare member is given a unique sign up form / landing page which they can access via their account.
2) Anyone who signs up via that unique form/landing page will be assigned as your referral.
3) The new filmer who has signed up will get a bonus payment on their first video sale and you will receive 10% commission every time their video sells up to a limit of £400 per unique filmer. Just note if they upload 1 video or 20 videos, you will receive 10% commission on ALL of their videos up to a £400 limit.
How to get access
To request access to this new feature simply provide your email address by clicking here and we’ll enable it on your account.
Once enabled or if it’s already enabled, you can get access to your special referral page on https://newsflare.com/refer-a-friend. Please note YOU MUST be logged in to access this page.
Navigating the features
Accessing your referral link
Once enabled, there are a number of ways you can access this page (see below)
1) Press the upload/add button at the top of your account located next to your profile picture. This will show a drop down menu allowing you to copy your special referral link.
2) Click on the three bars located on the top left of your screen which will open up a range of options, one of them being referrals.
Once clicked, it will bring up your personal referral page where you can copy your referral link as shown below.
Viewing your referrals
Newsflare has implemented tracking information for all of your video referrals, so you can keep tabs on how you are doing.
There are a number of data points such as monitoring clicks, total revenue, new filmers, uploads and date ranges. All of this can be found on the refer a friend page. You must be logged in to see this page.
As you can see above, everything about your referral progress is stored on this one page. Once you select the date range it will bring up all the relevant tracking information for that particular month.
The Total Sales & Total Uploads are continually tallied up across all months.
Notifications
Notifications can be found by clicking on the bell icon at the top right of your screen.
We have implemented notifications for the refer a friend program to alert you on two key actions.
1) A new filmer signs up via your referral link.
2) When you earn commission on a video.
For anyone who has signed up via your referral and then makes a sale, they will also be notified of their bonus as shown below.
Payments
All earnings generated from referrals are paid to you as soon as a transaction takes place. The payment is processed and paid to you on your selected payment method on your Newsflare account.
Types of revenue
There are various ways a video can generate revenue:
Direct Sales - a contracted buyer licences a clip for a flat fee.
Rev-Share Partner - a buyer who may run social pages will use that content on their own social channels to generate revenue, which is then reported back to us and processed into a transaction.
Newsflare Studios - Newsflare has a range of social channels on Snapchat, YouTube & Facebook which generate revenue for our filmers. This works in the exact same way as a Rev-Share Partner but operates in house.
Production Buyers - We work with a range of production studios who licence clips for TV shows, movies and even documentaries. These clips will usually sell for much higher than Direct Sales.
Ad-hoc - a publisher or individual purchases a one off clip via our self checkout system.
FAQ
Q: Does it matter if I send the same link to multiple people?
No, we can track each upload individually so you can share the same link with everyone.
Q: Can a new filmer upload anything?
Yes! However we do have some rules. The video MUST be from the original filmer and can't cause any copyright infringements otherwise we are unable to licence the footage. We will do some checks on our end to make sure the video is suitable for licensing.
Q: What type of videos from filmers do well?
We have range of topics that perform well:
Extreme weather - tornadoes, floods, lightning, huge storms, massive hail, huge waves, etc
Breaking news
Anything with a unique or interesting action
Natural disasters - volcanoes, landslides, earthquakes etc
News footage – footage of any newsworthy event that is interesting
Cute pets, kids, families
Dashcam - learner drivers, road rage, crashes
Fails – falls, slips, and crashes, especially with a story behind them
Animal videos – unusual animals, animal attacks, unusual animal behaviour, wildlife rescues
Life hacks, DIY, oddly satisfying, science experiments
"Reveals" with an interesting or unusual story behind them or great visual idea
Q: How should I promote this?
This is totally up to you, but if you’re a creator with a following on TikTok/IG this would be a great way to sign up other creators and give them a chance to earn money from their videos. You can put your unique link in your bio or promote it through your stories.
Q: A filmer signed up and uploaded but now the video has been removed, where did it go?
If we spot any issues with the video i.e that person has already signed up with another agency to licence their video, we won’t be able to work with it.
Q: Who owns the copyright?
Newsflare will never take ownership of the videos, that will remain with the filmer. Newsflare works as a marketplace connecting filmers / creators with buyers. If the filmer isn’t happy they can request for their video to be deleted, no questions asked.
Q: How much can I earn?
You can earn up to £400 per unique filmer. So if they upload 1 video or 20, we’ll give you commission on ALL sales up to a maximum of £400. Another way to look at it is, if you onboard 10 new filmers, the earning potential from them is £4000.
Q: Will I be notified when someone signs up and then makes a sale?
Absolutely, we’ll send you a notification on your account. You can view your notifications by clicking on the ‘bell’ icon at the top right of your account.
Important note: Newsflare takes copyright very seriously, we will run checks on all videos uploaded via your referral link ensuring that they are copyright cleared. We’ll use a mix of automated tools we have developed in house and human checks to make sure the system is not being abused. Any forms of abuse will result in termination of the program and your account.
