June 2023: A Month in Review
Alongside the arrival of summer, Newsflare’s filmers have been hard at work sharing an incredible array of UGC. While some footage had us all stunned, like the woman who mistook superglue for eye drops, we’ve also witnessed stunning highlights, such as the breathtaking celebrations of the Dragon Boat Festival in China.

A painful mix-up
This woman’s living nightmare turned into a viral hit, with over 3.2 million views and counting on TikTok. Jennifer Eversole from Santa Rosa, California, filmed herself on June 3 after she mistakenly poured the adhesive into her left eye, seeing her eyelashes become glued together. Jennifer’s painful experience which left her hospitalised had many people commenting, asking for updates and even sharing their own similar experiences.

A sight to behold
A breathtaking “golden dragon”, spanning 550 metres in length and made up of 55 bamboo rafts, paraded along a river in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in celebration of the annual Dragon Boat Festival. The festival is a traditional Chinese holiday which occurs on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar. The best-selling footage showcases the beauty of this festival, as well as the picturesque landscape of mountains and lakes.

Too close for comfort
Everyone likes to know what their favourite celebs are up to, and our filmers have got up-close and personal with some of the world’s biggest stars. This top-selling footage captured the moment US singer Bebe Rexha was hit in the face by a mobile phone while performing in New York. A 27-year-old man named Nicolas Malvagna was arrested and charged with a felony assault for using his phone as a weapon after the incident. Luckily, Rexha only had to get a few stitches but was otherwise ok.

Otherworldly animals
This majestic creature is a giant Pacific octopus, and was caught and released on a half-day sport fishing trip out of Redondo Beach, California on the 16th June. Weighing over a hefty 50lbs, this octopus was caught on a strip of mackerel while people aboard the 65 x 25 ft Redondo Special boat were fishing for rockfish. The reddish-brown octopus then proceeded to do a bit of exploring around the vessel, before finding its way back into the water.

A whirlwind of emotions
Is there anything better than a feel-good clip that brings a smile to your face? Gabrielle Johnson knows that her younger sister Marnie has a smile that can light up a whole town, and she managed to bring it out in this heartwarming surprise video. Gabrielle managed to surprise her sister, who happens to be a huge Taylor Swift fan, with tickets for her Eras tour concert after searching for seven months. Gabrielle said that her reaction was nothing less than what she expected, and her sister was incredibly excited about the concert.
