How does Exclusivity Work at Newsflare?

Wondering what the difference between exclusive and non-exclusive licensing is? We’ve put together a short and snappy guide to help you understand the terms, and how they work at Newsflare.

First up, what exactly does exclusivity mean? And how does it work at Newsflare?

When you upload to Newsflare, you are giving us, and only us, permission to licence your video on your behalf.

If you’d like to find out more on how licensing works, read our guide here.

Does that mean Newsflare owns the video?

Nope. Our agreement ensures you always retain the copyright (read more on copyright at Newsflare here) so you can rest easy knowing you’ll always own your video with us.

The only thing this means is that you agree to not give permission or upload your video to other video licensing platforms. You’re making your video exclusive to us.

What’s the difference? Why does it matter?

There are benefits to both ways of working with Newsflare, the key difference is your share of the revenue.

When you sign exclusively with Newsflare, your share of the revenue is 60/40. That means you get 60% of what is made from the video.

When you sign non-exclusive with Newsflare, your share of the revenue is 50/50. That means you get half of what is made from the video.

This is because signing your video exclusively to Newsflare makes it more valuable as it cannot be found elsewhere, and therefore we can charge buyers an increased price. The more platforms your video is liscenable at, the more likely it is that buyers can get it cheaper.

Exclusivity is key in ensuring the value of your video remains high.

Had a bad experience with exclusive terms before? Not to worry.

Our in-house team works on various initiatives to ensure your video gets seen by our buyers, and gets put in front of the right audience, at the right time.

We also offer support in filmer resources like our ‘Guide to Increasing Video Sales’ and filmer-first Instagram page.
